Today, members of the United States Congress began filing for the impeachment of President Barack Obama. The grievances of the Republican representative Tom Rice from South Carolina and his 28 congressional supporters.

Rice argues that the Legislative branch, which is responsible for drafting new laws, is firstly being overruled by the Executive branch. They are changing the language in the drafts to promote the Obama administration’s agenda. Some laws are being implemented without congressional review, challenging the Legislative branch’s legal authority. Secondly, Obama’s Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional, and Congress is filing for impeachment to cease these and other illegal actions taken by the President of late. Rice is quoted condemning Obama for “picking and choosing” from the laws our founding fathers created in order to serve his own purposes, and ignoring the Constitution. The impeachment proceedings are intended to stall the unilateral actions of the Executive branch by challenging the policies pushed through without Congressional approval. Should the House pass the motion to impeach, the constitutionality of Obama’s health care plan, amongst other grievances, will be brought under review by the Senate.

Tom Rice and his 28 supporters still have a long road ahead of them before an actual impeachment were to take place, but there hasn’t been this much support to move forward since the clinton scandal.
