Duck Dynasty’s Boss Hog Dropped from Christian Speaking Event

Willie Robertson aka “Boss Hog” has had his invitation to speak at a benefit for the Christian group “Family Ministries” revoked as a result of his family’s new wine venture. Willie, age 41, is a prominent member of the popular reality TV series “Duck Dynasty”.

It was only last week that the family announced a deal with Napa Valley’s Trinchero Family Estates to promote new line of chardonnay, moscato and red wines under the brand name “Duck Commander Wines”. It turns out that Family Ministries does not believe in drinking alcoholic beverages and feels the Robertson family wine venture is not in harmony with the gospel of Christ as they understand it.

It isn’t a simple matter of being puritanical. Family Ministries operates an Adolescent Drug & Alcohol program. The group is all too aware of the problems that can arise with youth as a result of substance abuse. In light of this, they believe that it isn’t in their best interest to send a mixed message to young people that it is wrong to drink, while inviting someone to address them who will be selling those drinks. Add to this that the audience Willie Robertson was set to address would be composed largely of teenagers.
